A financially struggling teenage girl from a dying factory town in Ohio is determined to forge her own future when she is accepted to an out-of-state college.
Check out the official trailer for the upcoming small-town drama “Holler,” starring British actress Jessica Barden (The End of the F—ing World) as Ruth, an American high school senior who must seek her own path in life before getting dragged down by the woes of her fading town.
The slice-of-life drama, which is written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Nicole Riegel, based on her own short film of the same name, also stars Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead), Gus Halper (Dickinson), and Becky Ann Baker (Girls).
After earning strong reviews during its festival run last year, “Holler” is scheduled to hit theaters and on VOD on June 11.
In a forgotten pocket of Southern Ohio where American manufacturing and opportunities are drying up, a determined young woman finds a ticket out when she is accepted to college. Alongside her older brother, Ruth Avery joins a dangerous scrap metal crew in order to pay her way. Together, they spend one brutal winter working the scrap yards during the day and stealing valuable metal from the once-thriving factories at night. With her goal in sight, Ruth finds that the ultimate cost for an education for a girl like her may be more than she bargained for, and she soon finds herself torn between a promising future and the family she would leave behind.
